The NYT called the appearance of US representatives at the Zapad-2025 exercises a surprise

The presence of U.S. representatives at the Zapad-2025 exercises in Belarus came as a surprise to participants and international experts. This was reported on September 15 by The New York Times.

"The appearance of the Americans was a very remarkable turn of events. These exercises, held every four years, were originally conceived in order to get an idea of how Russia would defend itself against an invasion by a member of NATO, an alliance of which the United States is the strongest member," the publication says.

Zapad-2025 exercises are held from September 12 to September 16. Poland has closed its border with Belarus because of them. On September 15, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced that the US military had attended the Zapad-2025 exercises. In addition, representatives of 23 states, including three from NATO countries, also took part in the exercises.: USA, Turkey and Hungary.
