The UK has opened a criminal case into the death of a girl after surgery in Dagestan.

In the Karabudakhkentsky district of Dagestan, investigators have opened a criminal case on causing death by negligence after the death of a 19-year-old girl in a hospital. This was announced on September 16 by the press service of the regional directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Earlier it was reported that on September 9, after an operation to remove gallstones, the girl died in the Karabudakhkent central hospital. The family accuses the doctors of negligence, claiming that they rushed to the wedding and did not monitor the patient's condition, which led to her death. The deceased has an 11-month-old daughter.

"Information is being disseminated in the media about the death of a 19-year-old patient in one of the medical institutions of the Karabudakhkentsky district of the Republic on September 9, 2025. <...> On this fact, investigators from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Republic of Dagestan have opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence due to improper performance of professional duties by a person")," reads a message on the UK Telegram channel.

A forensic medical examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death, the department added. The investigators seized medical documents that are relevant to the investigation.

On August 31, a baby died in the maternity ward of Khasavyurt in Dagestan. Investigators have opened a criminal case on this fact under Part 2 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Causing death by negligence").
