The Croatian Embassy has, without explanation, revoked the visa of two-time European Greco-Roman wrestling champion Emin Sefershayev, issued to participate in the World Championships in Zagreb. This was announced on September 13 by Gogi Koguashvili, the head coach of the Russian national Greco-Roman wrestling team.

"The Croatian Embassy has revoked the visa previously given to Emin Sefershayev, without specifying the reasons. Sadyk Lalaev has not been given a visa yet, the chances are getting slimmer. Emin is the current European champion and a two—time World Cup medalist, Sadiq is a World and European Championships medalist," TASS quoted him as saying.

According to the coach, both athletes have already competed in Croatia this year. He also stressed that there are two days left before the flight to Zagreb.

In turn, Mikhail Mamiashvili, president of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR), said in an interview with RIA Novosti that Sefershayev's Croatian visa had been revoked at the initiative of the European Union.

The competition will be held from 13 to 21 September. In total, the Russian national Greco-Roman wrestling team for the World Cup included 10 athletes, adds Sport-Express.

Last August, the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) announced that two Russian athletes who planned to participate in the Paris Paralympic Games had been refused visas. The Russian sports organization stressed that such actions are unacceptable for a country that holds such major sporting events. Zakharova, in turn, called the refusal to issue visas to two Russian Paralympians cynicism.
