Patriarch Kirill spoke about 400,000 participants of the procession in Moscow
The number of participants in the procession in Moscow on Sunday was 400,000, and the Russian Orthodox Church has spoken out against suppressing the figures. This was announced on September 12 by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in a sermon after divine service at the Trinity Cathedral of the Danilov Monastery.
The Patriarch noted that the procession was a significant event, since, according to skeptics, only 50,000 participants were expected to gather.
"When 400,000 passed, [the skeptics] got scared and started calling completely different numbers. We are not proud of these figures, but we should not conceal them either," he stressed.
The citywide procession was dedicated to the celebration of the Cathedral of Moscow Saints and was held on Sunday. Patriarch Kirill led a solemn procession from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior to the Novodevichy Monastery in Moscow.
