- Roskachestvo reported that scammers sent SMS messages with alleged access to a crypto wallet.
Scammers began sending SMS messages to Russians about allegedly accessing crypto wallets with a large balance. Instead of the usual phishing links, the attackers immediately provide usernames and passwords. This was announced on September 11 by the Center for Digital Expertise of Roskachestvo.
As the experts explained, the user receives a notification about the connection of a financial account with a login, password and a huge balance. The message is accompanied by a link to a fake platform and a warning about the confidentiality of information.
"The key element of the scheme is to create the victim's feeling that she has accidentally gained access to other people's money. When going to the website, the user sees an interface that resembles a crypto exchange, but with numerous errors and visual flaws," Roskachestvo told TASS.
When trying to withdraw funds, the system requires you to "upgrade your status" by adding real money to your account. At this stage, the scammers receive real money, and the "millions" in the account turn out to be fake.
"If they ask you for money to give you money, this is a classic deception scheme. No legal and secure platform works with SMS passwords or charges a withdrawal fee. We recommend that you immediately block the senders of such messages and under no circumstances attempt to withdraw money from questionable sites," said Sergey Kuzmenko, head of the Roskachestvo Digital Expertise Center.
