NATO is assessing Poland's statements about the UAV incident.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that the alliance is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the incident with drones in Polish airspace. A video of his statement was posted on September 10 on the YouTube channel NATO News.
"The North Atlantic Council met this morning to discuss the situation against the background of consultations requested by Poland on article 4 of the Washington Treaty," he said, adding that the violation of Polish airspace, according to NATO, is not an isolated incident.
Rutte added that NATO is conducting a comprehensive assessment of the incident.
Earlier in the day, the operational command of the branches of the Armed Forces of Poland (RFA) reported on the defeat of several drones by the Polish military that violated the country's airspace. Later, the Reuters news agency, citing sources in NATO, said that the alliance did not regard the incident with the drone in Poland as an attack.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the incident a provocation. In turn, Andrei Ordash, Charge d'affaires of Russia in Poland, said that Warsaw had not provided any evidence of the Russian origin of the drones.
On September 10, Rutte announced that planes from four NATO countries had participated in the neutralization of UAVs over the Polish border. The NATO Secretary General also stressed that the alliance needs to continue investing in its security and support Ukraine.
