A group of deputies from the Fair Russia — For Truth faction, led by party chairman Sergei Mironov, has submitted to the State Duma a bill that would ban family members of migrant workers from entering and staying in Russia. The document is published on the official website of the State Duma (State Duma).

The draft law assumes that relatives of foreign citizens working in Russia will not be able to obtain the right to enter and stay in the country. At the same time, citizens of Belarus will be an exception. If adopted, the law will enter into force from the moment of its official publication.

"The adoption of the federal law will reduce the migration influx by 15-20% by excluding family members of low—skilled migrants, which will reduce the burden on social infrastructure and budget expenditures on education, healthcare and social security," the explanatory note says.

In an interview with TASS, Mironov noted that the proposed measure is "an important step towards the transition to a shift work system for migrants in Russia."
