- Medvedev urged to take into account the risks of malicious importation of plants into Russia
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said it was important to take into account the risks of the deliberate introduction of plants, animals and microorganisms from unfriendly countries into Russia. He announced this on September 8 at a meeting of the interdepartmental commission of the Security Council on global warming.
"The deliberate introduction of alien plant species into our territory, and this cannot be ruled out, animals, and, consequently, microorganisms from unfriendly states are also considered as a way of biological warfare against our state," a recording of the speech was posted on Medvedev's page on the VKontakte social network.
Medvedev noted that the risks of biological threats should be taken into account along with the objective consequences of global climate change.
On August 29, Rospotrebnadzor reported the first imported case of chikungunya fever in the Russian Federation. It was clarified that the patient was hospitalized in a moderate condition. At the same time, the agency noted that there are no risks of infection spreading in the country, since fever is transmitted through insect bites, and not from person to person. On the same day, virologist, Doctor of Biological Sciences Albert Rizvanov told Izvestia about measures to prevent infection with chikungunya fever.
