Lavrov announced the condemnation in FIFA of a possible match between Russia and the United States.

In some circles, including the leadership of the International Football Federation (FIFA), the possibility of holding a match between the national teams of Russia and the United States is being discussed. This was announced on September 8 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"I know that some circles, including the FIFA leadership, are already discussing the possibility of holding a football match: the host country of the 2018 and 2026 FIFA World Cups (between the national teams of Russia and the United States - Ed.)," he said at a meeting with MGIMO students.

According to him, the United States, along with Mexico and Canada, will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Lavrov noted that previously the United States and Russia had traditions of "hockey tours to each other," and interest in this remained.

As the minister pointed out, "the more such contacts there are between the two countries, the better." In addition, Lavrov added that the United States and Russia have never had "insurmountable problems."

"The stage of return may be playing on neutral fields, but we want to play matches at home."
