The film tells the story of revolutionaries who risked their lives to preserve secret documents in 1927, and combines historical drama, detective elements and a romantic line. Sina notes that Russian viewers appreciated the plot of the film and the action-packed shootout scenes.

The publication also called "Red Silk" an important project in celebration of the Year of Culture of Russia and China. As Sina pointed out, the film is on the list of films that offer a different perspective on history and the past.

The director of the film, Andrei Volgin, in a conversation with Izvestia, spoke about the difficulties with the language barrier on the set. He noted that a week of joint work helped overcome it. Volgin also emphasized the discipline of the Chinese team and professionalism.
