The movement of the key rate in Russia will now be directed only downward. Andrey Kostin, Chairman of the VTB Management Board, told Izvestia on September 5 on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum 2025 (WEF 2025).

"In general, I think that inflation is being controlled quite well today, hence the general downward trend in the key rate," he said.

Kostin stressed that now the key rate will only move downwards, but clarified that the final decision is still made by the Central Bank of Russia.

Earlier in the day, the head of Sberbank, German Gref, said that he also expects a reduction in the key interest rate. According to him, the conditions for this process have already developed in Russia.

During the plenary session at the WEF-2025, Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified that maintaining the key rate level is aimed at combating inflation and rising prices. According to him, the country needs to ensure a "soft landing of the economy."
