Norway announces purchase of British Type-26 frigates
Norway and the United Kingdom have signed a contract worth 10 billion pounds ($13.5 billion) for the supply of British Type-26 frigates to the Norwegian Navy. This was reported by Bloomberg on Sunday, August 31.
"Norway has chosen the United Kingdom as a supplier of frigates for its navy, which will be the largest investment in the Scandinavian country's defense," the article says.
This amount was announced by the British Defense Ministry, while Norway did not specify the amount of the transaction. Delivery of Type-26 designed to combat submarines will begin in 2030.
It is reported that this deal will also provide jobs for about 4,000 workers at the shipyards of the British defense company BAE Systems Plc in Glasgow.
On August 27, the U.S. State Department approved the potential sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles and related equipment to the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for a total of $103.9 million. It was clarified that this deal meets the interests of US foreign policy and national security. It will strengthen the security of the NATO allies, which play a key role in ensuring the political stability and economic development of the North Atlantic region.
