Four candidates from the AfD party died in Germany before the elections.
Four deputies of the Alternative for Germany political party died unexpectedly on the eve of the elections. This was announced on August 31 by the radio and television broadcasting company WDR.
"Another AFD candidate died on the eve of the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia. This is the fourth death in this land," the publication says.
The fourth victim was the direct candidate for the city council from AFD, Ralph Lange. According to local authorities, the ballots issued in the relevant district are no longer valid. The party itself was allowed to nominate a new candidate.
Among them, Stefan Berendes, the party's candidate for the city council of Bad Lipsping, as well as candidates in North Rhine-Westphalia and Schwerte, died.
Earlier, on August 19, the N-TV channel, citing a survey by the Forsa Institute, reported that 67% of German residents were dissatisfied with the work of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. At the same time, only 30% of German citizens consider his work satisfactory. In addition, 78% of Germans believe that Merz is unable to fulfill his election promises.
