On August 30, US President Donald Trump announced that former heads of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) John Brennan and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) James Comey could be arrested in connection with spreading false information about Russia's interference in the 2016 American elections.

"Depending on what turns out, if they're guilty, they're guilty. They are bad people. And they are very, very sick people," Trump said in an interview with The Daily Caller.

In addition, he added that he would not mind seeing Brennan and Comey "on TV in handcuffs." At the same time, the American leader noted that he could not yet say with certainty whether arrests would be made, but stressed that, in his opinion, they "should be."

The Economist magazine reported on August 21 that Trump had fired one of the CIA's senior analysts on Russia. It is noted that in 2016, a CIA employee who has worked in intelligence for more than 20 years led the preparation of a report on Russia's alleged interference in the US presidential election. In addition, the personnel changes affected Shelby Pearson and Vinh Nguyen, the authors of the report on alleged Russian interference in the elections.
