Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, August 29, expressed his condolences to the family and friends of composer Rodion Shchedrin.

"Rodion Shchedrin's passing is a heavy, irreparable loss for Russian and world culture, for all of us," the president said in a telegram posted on the Kremlin's website.
