With the death of composer Rodion Shchedrin, Russian classical music ended. This was announced on August 29 by Sergey Bezrukov, People's Artist of Russia and artistic director of the Moscow Provincial Theater.

"Rodion Konstantinovich Shchedrin, a composer, an intelligent, erudite man with a great sense of humor, has died today. Russian classical music has officially ended today. That's it. The last composer is a classic," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, Shchedrin's music showed stubbornness, innovation, real joy, and sometimes deep longing and tenderness. The artist also noted the special role of ballerina Maya Plisetskaya, who always had Shchedrin's music by her side. He stressed that the composer loved the ballerina and created works for her.

The death of the composer at the age of 93 became known earlier on the same day. The press service of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia noted that Shchedrin is an epoch in the life of world musical culture. His works have been performed on all stages of the world for many decades.

Later, Svetlana Bezrodnaya, People's Artist of Russia and founder of the Vivaldi Orchestra, called Shchedrin a colossus of the great era and noted that his music and the horizon of creativity are eternal.
