Businessman Karapetyan's party will participate in the 2026 elections in Armenia
The party of Samvel Karapetyan, head of the Tashir Group of Companies, will participate in the 2026 parliamentary elections in Armenia. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia on August 29.
Narek Karapetyan, Karapetyan's nephew, noted that it is planned to create a political force in the future. According to him, the new organization will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia.
In addition, he presented the voluntary movement "Mer Dzevov" ("In his own way") in Yerevan. According to him, it is not a political organization and was created in order to unite society around "good" and significant projects.
"This movement is not a political one, it is for those who are ready to serve socially important goals without any benefit. People of different professions and views can join the movement," he stressed.
On July 3, the Armenian parliament adopted in the final reading laws allowing the nationalization of the company "Electric Networks of Armenia", which belongs to the detained businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan. The opposition expressed its disagreement, which considers the process illegal.
On July 15, the opposition political parties of the Armenian parliament appealed to the Constitutional Court (CC) demanding that the law on the nationalization of Karapetyan's Electric Grids be declared unconstitutional.
On July 23, Karapetyan defeated the Armenian government in the International Arbitration Court in the case of the nationalization of the "Electric Grids of Armenia", which belonged to him.
Karapetyan's detention became known on June 18. He was charged with calling for the seizure of power in Armenia, after which he was arrested for two months.
