US President Donald Trump has signed a decree that obliges the construction of all new federal buildings in the classical architectural style. This was announced on August 28 by the White House press service on its website.

According to the decree, federal buildings such as courts and government offices will promote classical architecture and honor traditions.

"The founding fathers, like many great societies before them, attached great importance to federal civil architecture. They wanted America's public buildings to inspire the people and encourage civic virtue," the statement explains.

New buildings should be designed in such a way that it is obvious that government institutions are located in them, while respecting the regional architectural heritage, the White House said.

The administration recalled that the founding fathers and the first presidents took part in the design of the Capitol building and the White House, setting architectural standards, and in the 1960s the federal government began to replace the traditional style with modernism, deconstructivism and brutalism.

On August 2, the United States criticized Trump's plan to create a ballroom in the White House with an area of 90,000 square feet (8.3 thousand square meters) and a cost of approximately $200 million. It was specified that construction will begin in September 2025, and the deadline for its completion is scheduled for January 2029 and is associated with the end of Trump's term as president of the country. It is assumed that the ballroom, which will become "another legacy" of the current head of the White House, will host dinner parties, business meetings and "other luxurious events."
