The Tagansky Court of Moscow has received a request from the investigation to detain blogger Arsen Markaryan, who is accused of insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland. This was reported on August 25 by the RIA Novosti news agency with reference to the court's press service.
"The court has received a request from the investigation to choose a preventive measure in the form of arrest for the accused Markaryan," the court said.
As previously reported by the Main Investigative Committee of Moscow, the blogger is charged under an article about insulting the memory of defenders of the Fatherland committed using the Internet. The maximum penalty is five years in prison.
On August 23, the press service of the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation in Moscow reported that the investigation would ask the court to arrest Markaryan. During the interrogation, Markarian pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The blogger's detention became known on August 23.
