Carney announced the allocation of $1.45 billion for military assistance to Ukraine
The Government of Canada will allocate 2 billion Canadian dollars (about $1.45 billion). — Ed.) on arms supplies to Ukraine. The relevant information was published on August 24 on the official website of the country's Prime Minister Mark Carney.
It is noted that of this amount, 835 million Canadian dollars ($603.6 million) will be used to purchase armored vehicles, small arms, ammunition, explosives, medical equipment, spare parts and drones. Another 680 million Canadian dollars ($491.5 million) will be allocated for the purchase of American weapons in accordance with the list of priority needs of Ukraine compiled by NATO.
In addition, 220 million Canadian dollars ($159 million) are planned to be invested in joint ventures of the Ukrainian and Canadian industries for the production and purchase of drones and countermeasures. Another 165 million Canadian dollars ($119.3 million) will be allocated for the work of the contact group on Ukraine, and 100 million Canadian dollars ($72.28 million) — for the purchase of weapons within the framework of the Czech ammunition initiative. The aid package was announced after the G7 summit in June 2025.
Earlier, on August 13, it became known that Germany intends to allocate $ 500 million for the supply of weapons to Kiev under a new mechanism called Priority Ukraine Requirements List (PURL — list of priority requirements of Ukraine). Support will be provided by European countries, Canada and the USA. At the same time, the provision of this assistance will be monitored and coordinated by NATO.
