CNN reported that the United States has assigned a leading role to Europe in security for Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has told European officials that Europe must take a leading role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine after the conflict ends. CNN reported this on August 22, citing an unnamed European diplomat.

According to him, the head of the State Department outlined this position of the White House during a telephone conversation with European national security advisers on Thursday. Rubio also noted that the United States is ready to participate in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, but did not specify what specific steps could be taken.

The limited participation of the United States, according to sources of the TV channel, may consist in American pilots performing reconnaissance flights over Ukraine. The US administration is also discussing the possibility of using drones for these purposes, the CNN interlocutors added.

According to the newspaper, US President Donald Trump has ruled out deploying American troops on the ground, but the US and its allies are considering a number of other options.
