- The Interior Ministry told about the method of stealing money by fraudsters during alleged employment
Fraudsters steal money from Russians, allegedly offering them employment through messengers and social networks. This was announced on August 22 by the Department for the Organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
"The attackers create a fictitious (sometimes copy real) company with attractive vacancies (content manager, marketer, etc.). Through platforms like Telegram <...> they offer to undergo training and an 'internship' during which real work is simulated," the agency's Telegram channel said.
In addition, the scammers send out letters with job offers allegedly to an international company, conduct a short "test" or interview in messengers, and register the victim on a fake corporate portal where she performs simple tasks.
A "salary" is displayed on the victim's account, which increases trust. After that, the scammers, under the pretext of "tax payments" or "refund of overpayment", demand to transfer money through a QR code or to a specified card, after which the connection with them is cut off.
On August 21, it was reported that the introduction of fake Telegram bots to collect personal data, the threat of power outages and pressure for urgent action were part of a new fraud scheme. It was clarified that the attackers send messages on behalf of management companies (CC), homeowners associations (HOAs) or emergency services in messengers and social networks. In these messages, citizens are threatened with power outages or fines for not transmitting meter readings. Special attention is paid to urgency, it is proposed to solve the problem through a Telegram bot.
