At least 26 people died as a result of the crash of a migrant boat off the Italian island of Lampedusa, 60 survivors were safely brought ashore, the Reuters news agency reported on August 14.

According to media reports, the migrants were heading to Europe from Libya. The overturned boat was discovered in the Mediterranean Sea by an Italian law enforcement aircraft.

"According to the accounts of the rescued migrants, they set sail from the Tripoli area early in the morning on two boats. One of the boats began to take on water, and they moved to another, which subsequently capsized due to strong waves [at sea]," the article says.

It is previously known that the group of migrants numbered about 92-97 people.

Earlier, the shipwreck with migrants was reported on August 3. The tragedy occurred off the coast of the Yemeni province of Abyan in the Arabian Sea. There were 150 migrants from Ethiopia on board the boat. The number of victims of the shipwreck was 54 people.
