Seismologists recorded a magnitude 5 earthquake in the northern Kuril Islands on the night of September 23. Locals could feel the tremors.

According to SakhalinMedia news agency, the epicenter was located 80 km southeast of Severo-Kurilsk. It lay at a depth of 50 km.

Aftershocks of up to 3 points could be felt in Severo-Kurilsk.

On September 17, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 was registered near Novorossiysk. The tremors were felt in the village of Gostagaevskaya, located about 47 km from Novorossiysk.
