A bear almost mauled a pensioner in Buryatia

In Buryatia, a bear almost mauled a man born in 1961 in the area of Hakusa. The pensioner escaped with leg injuries and was able to leave the danger zone on his own.

The attack took place on Thursday morning, September 3, writes IA UlanMedia. Rescuers took a man on a KS-701 boat through the waters of Lake Baikal to the Severobaikalsk hospital.

Cases of bears appearing near homes have become more frequent in the region. Since the beginning of the season, 37 such cases and six attacks on pets have been recorded in the republic.

In response, the authorities have increased security measures. There are 17 teams of bear hunters working in 10 districts. Their task is to capture predators that pose a threat to people, homes or infrastructure.

In specially protected natural areas of federal significance, including nature reserves and national parks, the directorates of these territories are responsible for regulating the number of clubfoot. By September 1, 47 animals had been regulated.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that over the past decades, the number of brown bears in Russia has been constantly growing and they are increasingly appearing near people. At the same time, hunters extract only 10-30% of the allowed limit.
