The psychologist listed the ways to get rid of anxiety
Clinical psychologist Daria Salnikova told how to overcome anxiety. In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, August 26, the expert noted that first of all it is necessary to switch to another emotional wave.
According to her, during an anxiety attack, attempts to calm yourself down with phrases like "everything will be fine" or "don't screw it up" often don't help. In an acute moment, emotions prevail over rational thinking, so the specialist advises not to reason, but to try to switch to another emotional state — surprise, admiration, anger or strong involvement.
The expert explained that it is difficult for the brain to simultaneously hold two dominant emotions. Therefore, a vivid reaction can temporarily interrupt disturbing thoughts. For example, you can watch a short video with unexpected or shocking content. A sudden change in impressions helps to bring down the usual disturbing scenario and switch briefly.
Another way is to communicate with other people. The psychologist advises you to leave the house and start a conversation, for example, with the neighbors. Discussing the news or an ordinary everyday conversation shifts attention from one's own state to the outside world and helps to focus less on palpitations, coma in the throat and other manifestations of anxiety.
The specialist also recommends choosing contrasting emotional content. In case of anxiety and depression, instead of a melancholic drama, it is better to watch a dynamic film or a documentary that can arouse admiration and interest.
At the same time, the task of such techniques is not to get rid of anxiety forever, but to reduce its intensity at an acute moment. After an emotional switch, it becomes easier for a person to calm down, restore rational thinking and assess the situation more soberly.
The day before, on August 25, Salnikova said that fear and anxiety differ in their source and influence on the human condition. Fear is associated with a specific danger and arises in the present, while anxiety is directed at possible events in the future that may not happen, writes RT. According to the expert, the prolonged condition depletes the nervous system and makes it difficult to think clearly. 360.ru .
Before that, on August 24, psychologist Sergey Lang told how to overcome anxiety before the start of the school year. He advised to explain to the child that school is only a part of life, that he will still have time for himself and friends.
In April, clinical psychologist Marianna Abravitova spoke with Pravda.Ru said that understanding the limits of one's influence helps to reduce anxiety due to events that a person cannot control. So, it is important to limit the flow of negative news and not focus on what cannot be changed.
