In the Chereksky district of Kabardino-Balkaria, three tourists from St. Petersburg were hit by a rockfall while climbing a mountain, one person from the group was killed, two were injured. This was announced on July 19 by the Investigative Department (SU) of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia for the republic.
"One of the participants was killed, two were injured, and they are receiving medical care," the department's channel in Maks said.
A preliminary investigation has been launched into the tragedy to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Also in Kabardino-Balkaria on August 17, eight climbers did not contact during the ascent of Elbrus. A group of 14 rescuers has been sent to search for them. The group of the missing was led by an experienced climber Vasily Rzhanov, who had climbed this peak more than once. His friend, who was on the mountain, told Izvestia on August 18 that Rzhanov's mother did not know about her son's trip to Elbrus and that they were looking for him now. On that day, the missing were found, and tourists were helped down the mountain.
