- The Foreign Ministry warned of a catastrophe for Poland in the event of Ukraine's accession to the EU
No one really expects Ukraine in the European Union (EU), and for Poland, in particular, its membership in the association can be a real disaster. This was announced on August 6 by Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky.
This is how the diplomat reacted to the words of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski about the possible blocking of Ukraine's accession to the EU.
"As for the threats to block Ukraine's accession to the EU, by and large, it is not particularly expected there. Ukraine's membership in the European Union would have disastrous consequences for Poland, including its agriculture," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
In particular, Lubinsky added, Polish farmers are well aware of the consequences of Ukraine's accession to the EU, but politicians in Warsaw may ignore their concerns. Although the interests of farmers in the 2027 elections play an important role, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out.
Polish Minister of Digitalization Krzysztof Gawkowski said on August 3 that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had caused the deterioration of attitudes towards Ukrainians in Poland due to the glorification of the Nazis.
The newspaper Myśl Polska reported on July 21 that Polish residents were tired of the arrogance of the Ukrainian authorities, as well as the position of their own politicians who continue to finance Kiev. Since the beginning of the current stage of the Ukrainian crisis, Poland has provided Kiev with €30 billion in financial, humanitarian and military assistance. This placed the country in fourth place among the EU donors to Ukraine.
