The Spanish Foreign Ministry summoned the Italian ambassador in connection with statements about the possible suspension of the Schengen Agreement for Madrid. This was announced on July 31 by Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Albares called the statement of his Italian colleague unworthy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of a partner country and noted that Spain expects European solidarity from its allies.

"This message is unworthy of the foreign minister of a partner and friendly country, from which we expect European solidarity," the Spanish Foreign minister wrote.

According to Spanish media, over the past week, more than 1.5 thousand migrants have arrived in Ceuta from Morocco, crossing by swimming or on foot. Due to the growing tension, the Spanish authorities decided to involve the military to support security in the city.
