Blogger Svyatoslav Kovalenko is facing an article on the rehabilitation of Nazism

An investigation is underway into blogger Svyatoslav Kovalenko, who threw a five-thousandth bill into a pond near the sculpture "Stand to the Death!" on Mamayev Kurgan. This was reported on July 28 in the press service of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.

"Social media users are actively discussing this incident and asking law enforcement agencies to give it a proper legal assessment. According to this fact, the investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Volgograd region are conducting a procedural check under Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rehabilitation of Nazism)," the agency said in a statement to Maks.

The Investigative Committee clarified that the chairman of the department, Alexander Bastrykin, instructed the head of the investigative department for the Volgograd region to submit a report on the progress of the audit and the circumstances established.

On July 28, Kovalenko told Izvestia about the reason for his actions. According to him, he didn't have any change, so he put in 5,000 rubles. Kovalenko shared that since childhood he had seen visitors throwing coins there. Having no change with him, he left a five-thousandth bill in the water and continued his walk. He also apologized to those whom his actions might have offended.
