The new German Ambassador to Russia, Clemens von Goetze, has arrived in Moscow. This was announced on July 28 by the press service of the diplomatic mission.

"First of all, I would like to thank you for the warm welcome you have given me here in Russia," Clemens von Goetze said in a video posted on the embassy's Telegram channel.

He also added that he was pleasantly surprised by Russia and its citizens. Von Goetze replaced Alexander Lambsdorff, who had been working in Moscow for almost three years (since August 2023).

Von Goetze officially assumed the post of German Ambassador on July 20. At the time, it was reported that the diplomat's career included working in various positions at the central office of the German Foreign Ministry and at the embassy in Washington. The diplomat also has experience working in German missions in Japan, China and Israel.

On July 16, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the departure of former German Ambassador to Russia Alexander Lambsdorff with words from Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita that "he did not deserve the light." She also posted an excerpt of a video of the German embassy, adding to it a musical accompaniment related to the scene of Woland's ball from the film adaptation of the novel.
