In Primorsky Krai, six children have drowned in reservoirs since the beginning of summer. This is reported by the regional Ministry of Civil Defense, Protection from Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters.

Since the beginning of the bathing season, six children between the ages of five and 18 have become victims of accidents on the water. Tragic cases were recorded in Nakhodka, Ussuriysk, Spassk-Dalny, Khorolsky and Kirovsky districts.

According to Education Minister Elvira Shamonova, all the cases occurred on weekends, and in some cases there were adults nearby. However, in all cases, one way or another, the children were temporarily left unattended.

On Monday, July 27, a meeting was held in the government of Primorye, the main topic of which was the prevention of deaths of children on the water, IA PrimaMedia clarifies. Prime Minister Vera Shcherbina has set the task to bring the organization of children's recreation by the water under strict control.

At the same time, as specified in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in most cases tragedies occurred in technical quarries and reservoirs, channels where bathing is prohibited. In one case, a child died in a swimming pool in the courtyard of a private house. The head of the department, Alexander Zlatkin, noted that the ministry, together with the heads of municipalities, is working to completely exclude children's access to such places, and stated the need to tighten legislation.

"In this regard, it is necessary to expand the practice of applying administrative and preventive measures to persons who leave young children without necessary and sufficient supervision, not only near dangerous reservoirs, but also in general - in everyday life. This work is already underway," the Minister of Emergency Situations of Primorye added.

On July 21, a 10-year-old boy drowned in a pond in Ussuriysk, who went swimming without his parents' knowledge. The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case.
