Vucic pointed to the EU's demand for complete obedience against common sense

The European Union (EU) requires other states to fully agree with their policies, even "contrary to common sense," Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in an interview with the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche on July 24.

"This shows that complete obedience is required in everything, otherwise you will be eliminated from the team. And even if something contradicts common sense, you still have to fully agree with it," the Serbian leader said.

The Head of State cited the country's policy towards the EU as an example. In particular, over the past five years, Serbia has not opened a single new negotiating cluster on its way to unification. The reason for this was the discrepancy between Belgrade's position and European statements against Russia. Today, it is "virtually forbidden" in Europe to voice an alternative opinion, Vucic added.

The Serbian president also commented on the "prolongation" of the Ukrainian conflict. Vucic stressed the lack of willingness to compromise on the part of Ukraine and European countries. Such a position "inevitably leads to further escalation," he said. The politician called for daily negotiations between the parties in order to "prevent devastating consequences."

In an interview with Rainer Novak, CEO of the Austrian newspaper Die Presse, on July 23, Vucic said that the country intends to work closely with other candidate states to join the union. Integration into the EU is Serbia's strategic goal, and the country has no other alternatives. According to him, the country intends to cooperate closely with other candidate states for joining the union.
