Gymnast Zhaleeva, the world champion in the USSR national team, died.

Tamara Zhaleeva, world champion in the USSR national team, Honorary Master of Sports of the USSR, Honored Coach of the USSR and the RSFSR, died at the age of 95. This was announced on July 23 on the website of the Russian Gymnastics Federation.

"On July 22, 2026, Tamara Andreevna Zhaleeva, a legend of Russian sports, died at the age of 95," the message says.

The organization expressed its deep condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and pupils of Zhaleeva. The federation stressed that "the bright memory of the great coach and wonderful man will forever remain in the hearts" of representatives of the sports community.

Zhaleeva was a gold medalist at the 1954 World Championships in the team competition and a multiple USSR champion. During her career, she has repeatedly won major All-Union and international tournaments. The athlete was also awarded the title of "Honorary Dynamo".

After completing her sports career, she worked as a senior coach of the Moscow national team and headed the Council of Veterans of the Russian Gymnastics Federation. Among the pupils of Zhaleeva are the champions of Europe, the world and the Olympic Games. The federation noted that she passed on to the students not only her skills, but also her sincere love for gymnastics along with the will to win.

A civil memorial service will be held on July 24 at 12:00 in the VIP hall of the Botkin Hospital in Moscow. The funeral will take place on the same day at 14:00 at the Danilovsky cemetery.
