Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Ed Miliband's appointment as British Foreign Secretary on July 23, recalling his brother, former head of the department David Miliband.

"Succession to the throne in Britain is now carried out not only from Windsors to Windsors, but also from Melibands to Melibands," Zakharova told RIA Novosti.

In the cabinet of the outgoing Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ed Miliband served as Minister of Energy Security and Carbon Neutrality of Great Britain. From September 2010 to May 2015, the politician was the leader of the Labor Party, which in those years was in opposition. His older brother, David Miliband, was British Foreign Secretary from 2007 to 2010.

On July 20, it was reported that former British Defense Minister John Healey became head of the Ministry of Finance of the United Kingdom after the personnel decision of the new Prime Minister Andy Burnham. The head of government himself promised the citizens of the country to make the "biggest changes" in politics and the economy over the past 40 years while he holds office.

On July 20, Keir Starmer announced his final resignation from the post of British Prime Minister, adding that he was "passing the baton" to Burnham. According to him, in more than six years as head of the Labor Party, he managed to bring the political force out of the crisis after the defeat in the 2019 elections, transform it and lead it to victory in the 2024 general elections.
