Putin: Russia's GDP grew by 0.2% in five months

Russia's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.2% in January –May 2026. This was announced on July 22 by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on economic issues.

"According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Russia's GDP grew at a modest pace in May, but it still grew, and is in the positive zone — 0.3%. And in just the first five months of this year, the increase was 0.2%," he said.

Putin also commented on the situation on the Russian fuel market. According to him, the difficulties that arise are temporary and are not capable of having a significant impact on the overall economic dynamics of the country.

The President added that attempts are being made to destabilize the situation in the fuel and energy complex and a number of other industries, but despite this, the Russian economy remains stable.

At a meeting with the country's financial leadership, the president announced measures to support the regions and launch a new investment cycle.

On July 8, Putin said that the main economic indicators in Russia remain positive. In April, industrial production increased by 1.9%, while manufacturing increased by 3.1%. Retail turnover increased by 6.5%. In addition, Russia's GDP grew by 1.3% in April, and by the end of January – April it added another 0.2%.
