Russians were given security advice on using banking applications
Many users are in no hurry to delete the old one after installing the new version of the banking application, but this habit can cost not only free space in their phone's memory, but also money in their accounts. Experts from the Roskachestvo Center for Digital Expertise warned about this on Thursday, July 16.
"The main danger of older versions is the lack of up-to-date security updates. Banks spend huge amounts of money to protect their systems, and it is almost impossible for hackers to hack the bank itself — the cost of a cyberattack is several times higher than the possible benefit," Roskachestvo noted in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
The agency added that the threat lies not in the global hacking of the bank, but in individual vulnerabilities.
According to experts, having infected the device, such a "worm" may not show signs of life for a long time, waiting for the right moment. They warned that when it detects a vulnerable system, it can automatically perform actions that will lead to the user losing funds.
"Don't be afraid to delete old versions. They are not insurance, but unnecessary risks. If the application has stopped working or you accidentally deleted it, you can always contact the bank branch. Our staff will help you install the current version in a few minutes," explained Sergey Kuzmenko, head of the Roskachestvo Digital Expertise Center.
He added that the only safe option is the official app store or installation through a bank branch.
Earlier in the day, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation warned of a new fraudulent scheme in which intruders, disguised as law enforcement officers, intimidate citizens into "replacing accounts" to steal funds, RT reports.
The scammers demand to withdraw all the money from their accounts at an ATM, and then deposit it through another ATM using their banking details. 360.ru . Fraudsters explain the need to use ATMs by reliability: so supposedly none of the bank employees will make a mistake, and outsiders will not find out about this operation, the Moscow city news agency reports.
