Starting from the 2026/27 academic year, additional winter holidays are provided for first-grade students from February 15 to February 21. This was announced on July 8 on the website of the Ministry of Education of Russia.

"Additional holidays are provided for first–grade students — from February 15 to February 21, 2027," the message says.

The Ministry of Education noted that when forming the academic calendar, special attention is paid to balancing the academic load, as well as observing autumn, winter and spring holidays lasting at least nine days to ensure proper rest and prevent overwork of schoolchildren.

The head of the department, Sergey Kravtsov, stressed that this approach ensures the quality of the educational process. At the same time, schools have the right to use both a ready-made federal schedule and to develop their own based on it, taking into account regional, ethnocultural traditions and planned events, the ministry concluded.

On June 5, Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) that parents with many children should be transferred to flexible working hours during the summer school holidays. According to him, the measure is relevant due to the closure of schools and kindergartens for the holidays, as not everyone has the opportunity to organize child care.
