The expert named the reason for the increased pressure on the Armenian opposition

The Armenian authorities are exerting significant pressure on political forces that advocate expanding ties with Russia. Arman Abovyan, a former member of the Armenian parliament, stated this in an interview with Izvestia.

"The country is clearly following the path of Moldova, turning into an anti-Russian springboard. Azerbaijan and Turkey are behind all this, and more globally, Europe as well. They all don't care how our country will feel in such conditions, whether it will be able to survive without contact with Moscow. The main thing for them is to realize their own geopolitical goals," the ex—parliamentarian stressed.

On Monday, July 6, Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia opposition party, was detained. He was accused of tax evasion on a large scale. Searches took place at the politician's home and at 70 other addresses.

Meanwhile, in mid-June, the Armenian Central Election Commission stripped Robert Kocharyan of his immunity and agreed to the criminal prosecution of the former president, the leader of the Armenia bloc. He was accused of money laundering and abuse of office.
