The German police began conducting large-scale searches in the offices of the German Football Union and the administrations of the cities that hosted the European Football Championship in 2024 due to suspected bribery with tickets to the tournament matches. This was reported on July 1 by the German newspaper Bild.

"The raid was caused, among other things, by an investigation into a 66-year-old German citizen and a 46-year-old French citizen. The investigation concerns the fate of several thousand tickets that could have been illegally distributed within the organization among privileged guests before the European Championship," the article says.

Previously, during the tournament, the suspects illegally distributed several thousand tickets to matches, as well as invitations for selected individuals. This may be regarded as giving a bribe.

The newspaper clarifies that Euro 2024 GmbH, which distributed thousands of tickets between the host cities, is under suspicion. The Frenchman involved in the case was responsible for relations with the authorities of these cities and invited the then heads of the so-called offices of the World Cup-2024 to the top matches of the championship. The other person involved thus benefited financially in the amount of € 2,4 thousand.

On June 17, the Spanish National Police detained 95 people who made over 66,000 fake sports shirts and uniforms worth over €7 million for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The operation was carried out jointly with Interpol, Europol, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the European Anti-Fraud Office. The investigation began in April last year.
