The number of car thefts in Moscow decreased 15 times in 2012

Currently, slightly more than 500 vehicle thefts are recorded annually in Moscow, whereas in 2012, when their number reached 7.5 thousand. This was announced on July 1 by Vladimir Vasenin, Head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow.

As Vasenin noted at a press conference dedicated to the Day of the State Road Safety Inspectorate, the number of carjackings in the capital decreased 15 times during this period. The merit of such indicators is in the work of software systems and police officers, reports TASS.

In turn, Alexander Bykov, head of the Department of the State Road Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Moscow, stressed that Moscow's roads are now the safest in the country — the capital has the lowest level of transport and social risk.

As the Moscow Department of Transport reported on March 12, the number of car thefts and thefts in Moscow has decreased by 97% over the past 13 years. So, according to the Traffic Management Center (TSODD), in 2012 about 13 thousand such cases were recorded in the capital, and in 2025 — only about 400 incidents.
