Death toll from Ebola in DRC rises to 399

The death toll from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to 399 people. This was announced on July 1 by the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the country.

"1,333 confirmed cases in total, 399 deaths, 189 people have recovered," a message on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The agency added that the mortality rate is 28.7%.

The country's National Institute of Public Health (INSP) reported on June 27 that the death toll from Ebola in the DRC had reached 360 people. It was clarified that the epicenter of the outbreak remains the province of Ituri. According to experts, 91.4% of cases of infection and 83.6% of all deaths were registered in this region.

Reuters reported on June 17 that the European Union will provide €493 million in financial assistance to combat the outbreak of fever in Central Africa. It was clarified that this amount includes the provision of medical care at the forefront of the outbreak response, humanitarian assistance in the Great Lakes region and Uganda, research on vaccines and treatments for filoviruses, as well as long-term work to increase preparedness and improve health systems.
