BMW has introduced the new generation X5 crossover. The model will be available with five different powertrain options. Conventional fuel versions will first enter the market at the end of November, electric and plug-in hybrid versions will be available next year, and the hydrogen X5 is scheduled to debut in 2028. The press service of the Bavarian brand announced this on June 30.

Production starts at the plant in Spartanburg (USA) in August. The new BMW X5 largely borrows design elements from electric vehicles based on the Neue Klasse platform, in particular, from the iX3 crossover. At the same time, the novelty received an original X-shaped head optics, which combines headlights, turn signals and daytime running lights. The door handles are hidden in the racks. BMW has abandoned the two-section trunk door. The discs range from 21 to 23 inches, depending on the configuration. The dimensions of the model are 4994×2000×1748 mm with a wheelbase of 3035 mm.

The interior of the X5 also borrows ideas from Neue Klasse models, in particular, a 17.9-inch tablet located in the center and a rack-to-rack digital display at the base of the windshield, as well as an unusual steering wheel with vertical spokes on top and bottom.

Optionally, a 3D projection display and a 14.6-inch screen for the front passenger, a more traditional steering wheel (with the M Sport Professional package) will be available. The panoramic roof area reaches 2.6 sq. m. As part of the Clear and Bold package, the center console is finished in real slate, and the gearshift lever and volume controls are made of glass. All X5 are equipped with door closers, for an additional fee, the crossover will be equipped with a function with which the doors can open and close automatically.

The new BMW X5 is based on an updated version of the CLAR architecture. In the basic version of the 40 xDrive, the crossover has a three-liter 400—horsepower turbo engine, the diesel 40d xDrive produces 313 hp. Both units are equipped with a 48-volt hybrid unit. Plug-in hybrids develop 489 hp and 612 hp. The all-electric version has an 800-volt electrical system, in the iX5 60 xDrive version, two motors produce a total of 578 hp, accelerating the crossover from zero to "hundreds" in 4.4 seconds, and a 141 kWh battery allows you to travel up to 845 km on a single charge. Other powertrain options are expected in the future. The hydrogen model is promised a range of 750 km.

The basic version of the X5 will include adaptive shock absorbers, an air suspension will be available for an additional fee, as well as a fully-controlled chassis and an active roll control system.

The day before, it was reported that Ford had suspended an employee who had worked at an SUV and pickup truck factory in the United States for 11 years for allegedly not paying for chocolate biscuits.
