South Korean leader Lee Jae-myung has instructed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to find out why the national team failed to overcome the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

"Since participation in the World Cup requires significant funds from citizens' taxes and large—scale government support, I ask the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to carefully investigate the circumstances of the incident, conduct a detailed analysis of the causes, develop measures to prevent similar situations in the future and submit a specific reform plan," the head of state wrote on his social network page.
