- Finland has reported problems with border towns due to the closure of borders with the Russian Federation.
Finnish cities located on the border with Russia have suffered due to the closure of checkpoints. This was announced on June 28 by a researcher from the University of Eastern Finland, Henrik Nielsen, to the Yle broadcasting company.
"Many localities, such as Imatra, have been economically severely affected by this," he said.
The researcher noted that the situation with the closure of crossings is unique, because previously the border was very busy. He added that the speed with which the situation changed from cooperation to complete closure was amazing.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said on May 24 that the Finnish-Russian border would be closed until Moscow stopped allegedly using migrants as a tool of pressure. At the same time, the Finnish president did not provide evidence that Russia was allegedly sending migrants or refugees to the Finnish border.
