Keir Starmer intends to take over the post of NATO Secretary General after resigning from the post of British Prime Minister. This was reported by The Observer newspaper on June 28.

It is specified that the post of head of the North Atlantic Alliance will be vacated in 2028, but for this he will need the support of the British government.

"He is known to be interested in the post of Secretary General of NATO, which will be vacated in 2028," the article says.

Starmer's supporters stress that at the recent G7 summit, European leaders praised his work. It is also noted that his relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is so close that they sometimes accidentally call each other by mistake.

The article indicates that Starmer will need the long-term support of the British government to obtain this position, but there is no talk of concluding any political deals, since this has never been his strong suit.

On June 22, the British Prime Minister announced that he would step down as leader of the ruling Labor Party. According to him, he informed King Charles III of his decision. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova joked on June 24 that Starmer, who resigned, had stayed in office longer than he should have. The diplomat compared the period of Starmer's work as head of the British government with the terms of office of his predecessors. Later, the diplomat said that Russia does not expect positive developments in bilateral relations with the UK in connection with Starmer's upcoming resignation.
