- A protest rally dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States was held in Washington
A protest rally dedicated to the Independence Day of the United States was held in Washington. The Next250 Is For All of Us march was a response to the events of American President Donald Trump. Footage from the performances on June 28 is published by Izvestia.
The organizers of the march presented their own "Declaration of Interdependence," an installation that shows the collective values that, according to the participants, should define the face of the United States for the next 250 years.
"Today's march began not only with official speeches, but also with songs and dances by representatives of the indigenous peoples of America, jokes and exhibitions of contemporary art. From the very first minutes, the participants of the action showed that their march was not about the parade version of America, but about the history of the country as a whole," said Ekaterina Pechenkina, a correspondent for Izvestia.
The march took place near the White House building, as well as the National Mall. The choice of location, according to the organizers, should help draw attention to the debate about American history.
"The point is that everyone should know what the story is. But our task is to create a new story: eliminate racism, eliminate discrimination, eliminate homelessness, eliminate unemployment. The next 250 years should be a time when people can live next to each other without conflict — be able to talk, not fight," said the organizer of the action, Tanner Simpkins.
Protests also broke out on June 18 in the American city of Senatobia after an incident when police officers shot dead a one-year-old child. The police arrived at the Walmart supermarket on a theft call and noticed two people with a child in the parking lot, presumably running out of the store. The police clarified that when trying to stop the suspects' car, the driver almost hit an employee, after which law enforcement officers opened fire on the car.
