Namibia intends to seek reparations from Germany for the genocide of local tribes that occurred in the early twentieth century. This was announced on June 27 by the Prosecutor General of the African country Festus Katuna Mbandeka on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

"The question of reparations remains — what can the Germans do to atone for their crimes. There are discussions about their volume in Namibia and Germany," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Mbandeka noted that the parties are trying to develop legal mechanisms for compensation payments. He also added that it is necessary to hold events for reconciliation and to preserve the memory of those events. The Prosecutor General stressed that this should not become a one-time action.
