Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov believes that Washington should clarify its position after the words of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about the lack of agreements on Ukraine at the meeting in Anchorage, as the proposals from the Russian side were discussed and accepted for consideration. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Anchorage Meeting

The minister recalled that before the talks in Alaska, the special representative of the President of the United States, Stephen Witkoff, visited Moscow and conveyed the first American proposals. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he would give an answer to them during a meeting with the American side.

According to Lavrov, during the summit, Putin consistently listed the US proposals, and Witkoff confirmed that the Russian side understands them correctly. After that, the Russian president outlined his position on each of the points.

The role of the United States in the settlement

The Russian Foreign Minister also noted that the statements of Washington's representatives about the US role in the Ukrainian settlement do not always coincide with each other. At the same time, Rubio's latest speech in Congress, according to Lavrov, allows us to conclude that the United States still claims a mediating role in the negotiation process.

Rubio said that at the meeting in Anchorage, the United States and Russia allegedly discussed only preliminary proposals on Ukraine, and not final agreements. At the same time, he confirmed that Washington intends to continue participating in the peace process and promote a diplomatic settlement.

Macron's statement

The day before, French President Emmanuel Macron said that following the meeting of the leaders of the G7 countries, a document was signed, which, according to him, indicates the US renunciation of the status of a neutral mediator on the Ukrainian issue. He also noted that Washington continues to support military assistance to Kiev and advocates maintaining sanctions against Russia.
