The United States and the Gulf states reject the imposition of any sanctions over the use of the Strait of Hormuz, as it should be unrestricted and free for navigation. This was stated on June 25 in their joint statement on the website of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Persian Gulf (GCC).

"The Ministers <...> stressed the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, noting that free, unconditional and unrestricted navigation, including the right of transit passage guaranteed by international law, remains essential for regional and global security. The ministers rejected any sanctions, levies or attempts to establish control over the strait," the text says.

It is noted that the corresponding position was confirmed during the negotiations in Manama, which were attended by American Secretary of State Marco Rubio as part of his tour of the Middle East. During the conversation, the participants in the dialogue also supported Oman's initiative to evacuate over 11,000 sailors from the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, the parties came to the conclusion that in the future they should all "counteract the full range of threats" allegedly coming from Iran, in particular from its unmanned aerial vehicles and ballistic missiles. Now, as noted in the text, any trade with the Islamic Republic and investments in it directly depend on Tehran's compliance with the memorandum of understanding with Washington.

Counter risk: Iran may block the Strait of Hormuz again

The fragile agreements between Washington and Tehran are on the verge due to Israel's tough stance.

Two days earlier, it became known that Oman and Iran would set up a working group to discuss the management of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to ensure safe passage for ships through it. At that time, it was noted that within the framework of such activities, discussions would be held with other States interested in this.

The day before, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament and the chief negotiator of the Iranian delegation, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that the administration of Hormuz would never be the same. According to him, international rights will be respected there, but only Tehran will prevail in this area, which at that time had already been opened.
